The Porsche 911 Turbo has been a symbol of European performance at its finest since the model debuted in 1974. Back then, when the original 930 was released, one had to have driving skills to manage the oversteer and turbo lag but it was a thrilling machine to pilot. Fast forward almost 40 years to the new 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S . The 991 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo puts up a 20 horsepower improvement to the outgoing 997′s numbers. This translates into 520hp and 487ft/lbs from the 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six. The Turbo S gets a 30-hp bump to a hair raising 560 from the 2013′s 530. The weight of the 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo remains around 3500 pounds with the Turbo S closer to 3550 pounds. The most controversial change is Porsche’s decision to eliminate the manual transmission option. All 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo models will be offered only with Porsche’s seven-speed PDK dual clutch automatic. The 2014 Porsche 911 Turbos is fitted with some seriously sophisticated aerodynamic spoilers. This includes a three-stage front spoiler and deployable rear wing with three positions,. Porsche adds a new Traction Management System to manage the all wheel drive system, which can send more power to the front wheels than before. Just when you thought the Porsche brakes couldn’t get any better, we see an increase in size to 15-inch disks at all four corners standard. In addition there is an option for a performance brake set up that will up your stopping power with ceramic brakes grabbing 16.1-inch rotors up front and 15.4-inch rotors in the aft. Calipers are four-piston units on the Turbo and six-piston on the Turbo S. The 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo now comes with 20 inches wheels to accommodate these massive brakes. The Turbo S comes with a center hub wheel lock design as standard equipment . Front tires now measure 245/35ZR20 in the front and 305/30ZR20 at the rear.
